What is a Virtual Race?

What is a Virtual Race? Simply put a virtual race is a race on your own terms. You choose the location, the time, and the distance. The race fee is donated to charity and you receive cool bling in the mail.

A virtual race is a self-motivated competition that is organized online where you complete a specific distance by running, walking or cycling on a date and time of your choosing, anywhere in the world. Virtual racing can be done on a treadmill at home or at the gym, at the beach, with friends, alone, in the evening, or at the break of dawn, it’s your choice. Whether you are looking to jump start your fitness routine or you’re a competitive runner, a virtual race is a great way to get a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or full Marathon under your belt.

Why is it called a “virtual” race?

The term virtual according to Oxford Dictionary “implies almost or nearly as described, but not completely or according to strict definition”. Traditional and Virtual races are both competitions but they differ in the flexibility and convenience of time and location. Traditional races are scheduled at a specific time and place and at a specific distance. Virtual races are at your own time and place. You also choose the distance.
